Master Bathrooms Designed for Couples

Posted by Tom Gilmour  |  No comments

A key ingredient of any happy marriage is the ability to share space, and no matter how large a house you have, there will always be areas of the home where you and your spouse get in each other’s way. For many couples, one of the biggest battlegrounds is the bathroom, as there never seems to be enough spare counter space or free time at the sink. One of the best ways you can stop butting heads with your significant other in the morning is by designing a master bath specifically for couples.

Plenty of Space

You and your spouse might like to point at each other for cluttering up the vanity area, but the truth is that you both need your own space for cosmetics, toiletries and other personal hygiene products. The area around the mirror and sink is generally the focal point of any bathroom, so why not his and her vanities designed that clearly defines each of your individual needs? With dual mirrors, sinks and countertops, you’ll be able to lay everything out the way you want or take advantage of the cabinetry to keep your products tucked away. This way you can stop crowding each other while you’re brushing your teeth in the morning.

Functional for Any Situation

Couples often work on different schedules, and when one spouse is in a hurry, the other may have time to move at a slower pace if your vanities are separated. If one of you only has time for a quick shower it could be a recipe for conflict if the other is relishing in a leisurely steamy shower. Sometimes a glass shower can be developed wide enough to accommodate dual fixtures for him and her to shower at your own pace. By splitting the fixtures on opposing walls and placing a bench in between sections to help separate, this design feature can support multiple purposes.

Design the Ultimate Bathroom

If you’re tired of butting heads with your spouse over space and time in the bathroom, designing a master bath for couples might be the answer. It is a very common request for his and her bathroom vanities to be built into a client’s master bathroom design. For bathing, glass shower tubs, dual shower compartments and separated glass shower stall arrangements are all options for couples looking to minimize conflict on busy mornings. Our friends over at Tobias Design have designed hundreds of master bathrooms and will be happy to meet with you about your individual needs.
