Chipped Tooth While Biking: What To Do

Posted by SEObucks  |  No comments

Kids usually do not think of getting hurt when they play. As such, it is not uncommon to see children getting into accidents. This is also true when they are riding bikes. Typically, parents teach their kids who to ride bikes when they are still young. In the process, the children may fall off the bike and get hurt. Well, children can suffer from different kinds of injuries after falling off bicycles. However, one of the upsetting is to fall face down and chipping a tooth.

More often, the child does not cry because of the pain but because of panic. Yes, tooth fractures do not usually involve direct pain. The only exception is when the gum line is affected. So, when your kid cries after falling of the bike, make sure to be there to comfort and reassure your child. Also, it is important that you tell your child that there are many pediatric dental offices in Council Rock that can help with the chipped tooth.

First Aid at Home

There is really is not much you can do with a chipped tooth at home. Only a certified kids dentist in Central Bucks can actually remedy the situation completely. But because getting an appointment with a dentist on short notice is close to impossible, you have to do what you can while waiting for a dentist to check the tooth.

What you can do is inspect the chipped tooth. A minor chip can be fixed by smoothing out the rough edges. If you see that a large part of the tooth has been broken off, you need to preserve the portion in a milk or saliva solution.

Then, you also have to give your child practical advice such as not eating anything that needs too much chewing and not using the affected side of the mouth when chewing. If bleeding is noticed, you can use sterile gauze and apply pressure on the wound. This and a moistened tea bag can stop the bleeding. For pain, you can also give your child a pain killer like Motrin.
Repair by a Dentist

As already mentioned, small chips do not usually need treatment in a kids dental emergency in Council Rock appointment. Generally, a gentle dentist in Bucks County will polish and smooth out the chipped area. But if the chip is big, it is important that you take your child to a kids dentist in Central Bucks within 24 hours of the accident. The dentist can put filling material in the tooth to help prevent tooth decay in Bucks County as well as tooth discoloration.

Further, make a point of getting a follow up appointment with your pediatric dental offices in Council Rock after one week. The quick action you take when your child gets a chipped tooth while biking will spare him or her from the trouble of having less than perfect teeth.
